Lower respiratory infections (LRTI) are one of the most frequent causes for seeking medical care. Management of LRTI has changed during the last decade. Appropriate diagnostics and treatment depend on the clinical scenario of acute versus chronic infections. New insights on diagnostic indications and tools and an overview of health economic approaches and health technology assessment associated with diagnostics for patient care and preventing antimicrobial resistance will be presented.
